Brasilia, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) Despite agreement reached regarding Internet regulations in Brazil, President of the Chamber of Deputies Henrique Eduardo Alves has postponed the vote until next Tuesday. Several groups were pleased with the changes to the proposal, presented four years ago, but reinforced after reports of espionage in Brazil by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).
Justice minister José Eduardo Cardozo, who met yesterday with Parliament’s leadership, said there was an agreement among deputies to make some changes to the text on Internet regulations in order to ensure its passing by the Chamber.
He stressed the changes to the document are discreet and have to do with Internet suppliers’ duties and the network’s neutrality.
Deputy Alessandro Molon confirmed that Article 12, which made it compulsory for companies to store in-country the information of Brazilian users, was removed from the proposal.
Instead, Article 11 will be reinforced, which guarantees that companies supplying Internet services in Brazil must comply with domestic laws.
