Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters interprets his worldwide success “Wish You Were Here” during a demonstration under the slogan “Do not extradite Assange” in front of the British Home Office in London.
The appearance of the world star directly in front of the British Home Office is intended to express a message of solidarity with Assange, who was arrested in April and is now to be extradited to the United States. Waters, a long-time supporter of Assange and WikiLeaks, said he was ashamed to be English after the founder of WikiLeaks was forcibly expelled from the Ecuadorian embassy and arrested.
The award-winning journalist and filmmaker John Pilger also appeared on stage to speak on Assange’s behalf. Pilgrim, who recently visited Assange in London’s Belmarsh prison, says Assange is enduring psychological torture.
Assange was arrested for violating bail conditions in the United Kingdom after being held at the Ecuadorian embassy in London for about seven years. He is wanted in the United States for his role in a series of “leaks” in 2010 in which whistleblower Chelsea Manning handed thousands of secret military documents and diplomatic papers to WikiLeaks.
