To keep the pot boiling among the IAC key volunteers, and coming just before the Winter Session of Parliament in India when the anti-corruption bill – Jan Lokpal Bill – is going to be tabled in Parliament, a seminar on “ICAC Hong Kong – Best Practices & 3-Pronged Strategy” was organized by the Hong Kong chapter of ‘India Against Corruption’.
NRIAC is the international chapter of the IAC (India Against Corruption) – a people led movement under the inspiration of India’s Anna Hazare.
The focus was on clearing the doubts, answering questions to a general audience, and informing and educating everyone interested in the “Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)”. This Hong Kong institution is very strong and ranks among the world’s most successful anti-corruption agencies.
The seminar is another milestone on the way to see how IAC Hong Kong’s active volunteer’s team can work as an Information Gateway for others, to help them see that corruption is a disease that can be treated, and help others understand the ICAC’s experiences in combating corruption in Hong Kong.
The ‘Knowledge Sharing Session’ was conducted by Mr Charles Ng, (Senior Community Relations Office – ICAC, Hong Kong) and Ms Law Hoi-ying, Jill (Community Relations Office – ICAC, Hong Kong).
The seminar started with an introduction to the history and work of the ICAC, giving the background for the setting up of the ICAC. Mr Ng then elaborated on the “Three-pronged attack” method against corruption with a detailed explanation of how the operations department works to eradicate corruption, and how the other two prongs work together to achieve that objective of a Corruption Free Society.
There were 35 IAC Hong Kong volunteers present during the seminar and all took a pledge to act as torch bearers to share this knowledge with others.
