According to statements by the Palestine Foreign Minister, Riyad al Malki, made on Saturday to the Spanish Efe agency, the hand over to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, will take place during the inauguration of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Due to Ban Ki-Moon passing such petitions to the President of the Security Council, the Palestinian leader decided to present the request in September right at the time when Lebanon will take over the presidency of this organism, al Malki indicated.
The Palestinian demand, which is under the threat of a US veto, implies the recognition of Palestine according to the borders of the 4th of June 1967, as well as full membership of the state in the United Nations, which will allow Palestine to participate in decisions of UN agencies, such as, the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNESCO and UNICEF.
After the negative response by the Israeli regime to freeze the construction of settlements in the West Bank, Palestinian officials abandoned talks re-established in September 2010 with US mediators to demonstrate their displeasure at the move.
At the end of July, the Palestine authorities made known their decision to request from the Security Council the incorporation of the Palestinian State into the United Nations and reject any negotiation with the Israeli regime.
