In late September nearly a hundred scientists had signed onto a letter claiming there were “inadequate environmental and cultural impact assessments” for the Dakota Access Pipeline and since then the number of scientists involved has grown to over 200. They are asking the Army Corps of Engineers to put a stop to DAPL until Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s concerns have been addressed. A petition asking to join them has almost reached 30.000 signatures.

In Japan a group on citizens launched an online petition last December at Change.org, asking three of Japan’s mega-banks – Mizuho Bank, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, and the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group – to stop funding for the Dakota Access Pipeline. This Friday they delivered the petition with more than 11,300 signatures.

In California, Santa Monica City Council voted to divest from Wells Fargo in support of the fight of water protectors, veterans and environmental activists at Standing Rock, deciding to sever ties with the bank because it is one of 17 institutions funding the Dakota Access Pipeline.
