“Macri Becomes President-Elect with 51. 4% of Votes
“Mauricio Macri, the candidate of the Cambiemos (Let`s Change) coalition, won Sunday´s runoff with 51.4% of the votes and became the President-elect of Argentina, scheduled to succeed President Cristina Fernandez next December 10, according to the returns of 98% of the polling stations , 2.92 points ahead of his Front for Victory opponent Daniel Scioli, who conceded defeat”. Almost immediately the newspaper La Nación produced an editorial to stop the human rights agenda instituted by the Government led by the outgoing President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and the trials against the Military who conducted the “dirty war” of the 70’s. But there was a backlash, including the newspaper’s own employees:

“The newspaper La Nación requested, through its editorial article on Monday, the end of the prison sentences that people accused of human rights violations and crimes against humanity are now serving, besides from justifying the State terrorist actions under the past military-civilian dictatorship.” Telam
The Latin American progressive Media were in mourning with the loss of Argentina as an ally in the struggle for social justice and against the vulture funds:
“Latin American Right Wing Celebrates Win in Argentina.
“Argentina’s election has proven a disappointment for the international left,
and a victory for the right…”
Even before final results were released, Venezuelan opposition figure and Lilian
Tintori and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera had already congratulated Macri.
Since then, right-wing leaders from across the region have joined a chorus of
approval for Macri, including Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Colombian
President Juan Manuel Santos and Venezuelan right-wing opposition figure Henrique Capriles.” Telesur
