Videos of the world march were playing on a huge screen while people were gathering. Then at 8:30 pm the President of the council of the community of Torino, Mr. Giuseppe Castronovo, and the Vice-President of the regional council of Piemonte, Mr.Roberto Placido, warmly welcomed the marchers. When the marchers appeared on stage, they were greeted with lengthy and intense applause full of emotion and strength that electrified the air. It was more than obvious that the marchers were captured by this amazing support and they expressed their sincere and warm greetings.

100 musicians under the guidance of Maestro Silvio Gasparella gave a fantastic performance starting with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, which was in perfect consonance with the atmosphere created earlier. During the concert an electronic banner was extended across the stage, reminding people of why they had gathered yesterday. It was definitely one of the most poignant moments that the World March has encountered so far.

Earlier yesterday at 11 am the same delegation of the World March had started its trip for Torino with an important stop in Novara. There, a peace tent was erected by local organizations. There were around 50 people gathered who welcomed the marchers; their enthusiasm was reflected in questions from the local media. The marchers provided people and the press with a synthesis of the World March’s progress so far and they endorsed a declaration denouncing the intention of the Italian government to buy 131 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, which can carry nuclear weapons, at a cost some tens of billions of euros and that are of a completely offensive nature.

Later the marchers visited the penal institute in Torino and held a meeting with prisoners and staff. The delegation stressed the necessity of moving towards a universal human nation where people are free and where they denounce violence. The marchers claimed that institutions like the one they visited would someday become part of the prehistory of human kind. The visit ended in a symbolic march inside the walls of the institution with the participation of both prisoners and staff. Later in the afternoon the delegation continued with the same theme by visiting a reformatory for under-aged prisoners where they held meetings in both male and female sections. The meetings were quite interactive between the marchers and the kids (aged 14-18) where the main topic was the importance of the new generation in changing the world by looking to the future no matter how difficult conditions had been in their lives so far.

Finally, before the start of the concert, a presentation of the World March was given by the marchers and the humanists of Torino in the Caminetto Hall; the presentation lasted for more than an hour and media interest was very high. There were 90 seats available but the number of participants was over 200, including dozens of children. Today, the same delegation of the World March and Balkan team will arrive in Naples.
