The U.S. president, Barack Obama, got his first major victory since his arrival to the White House when the House of Representatives gave him the green light for a proposed healthcare reform project. The project aims at ensuring universal coverage across the country.
The bill aims to expand health coverage to 36 million uninsured people, which marks the biggest change in American healthcare policy in the past four decades.
*“Through the hard work of the House, we are just a few steps away from getting healthcare reform in America,”* the president said in a statement. *”Now the U.S. must take the marked steps and approve this project. I am quite sure that we will.”*
President Obama believes that the healthcare plan will bolster the recovery of the American economy, which was badly damaged by the international financial crisis. Additionally, two thirds of the plan’s total costs will come from the diversion of money already earmarked for federal healthcare programs, and will therefore not be a major economic burden.
