The World March delegation was welcomed at Sezana by the Mayor and, on the border with Fernetti, met the President of the Trieste ANPI and the Mayor of Monrupino. A children’s march left from there and accompanied the delegation to Opicina.

The schools of the Altipiano Carsico organised an extraordinary reception for the March and the marchers with hundreds of Italian and Slovenian children expressing their welcome with songs, poetry and speeches. A running race for peace was staged from Opicina to the centre of the city of Trieste.

The delegation continued its first day in Italy with meetings with representatives from the local institutions at Trieste University, where it received the official greetings of the Mayor, the Provincial President and many other mayors from Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

In the afternoon, to the rhythm of the Brazilian percussion instrument, the Berimbau, 5000 people formed a huge symbol of peace in Piazza Unità. Notable among the day’s initiatives were also an exhibition of 400 works and the prize-giving for the competition, ‘We love the word Peace,’ a concert by 4 choirs and a conference on ethical finance.

In the evening, in honour of the marchers, who were leaving the next day for Vicenza, a concert by the guitar virtuoso, Stefano Barone, was held.
