Green hydrogen falters: Study questions its efficiency compared to alternatives
Europe has focused its efforts on green hydrogen as “the alternative” for the energy transition, seeking to replace gas in households, with the main suppliers being countries in the Americas, such as Chile, under trade agreements with the European Union.
However, the viability of this fuel is questioned by several critical voices. A study published in Cell Reports Sustainability reviewed more than 50 scientific publications on the profitability of green hydrogen, concluding that it is more expensive and inefficient than electric heat pumps to replace gas boilers, information that is declassified by a recent publication in the media Publico.es, written by Alejandro Tena, entitled: “Science pricks the fizz of green hydrogen”.
