A day dedicated to nonviolence. On October 14th at the Gandhi Memorial in Chennai, around 200 children, aged between six and sixteen, took part in a competition of drawing, painting and collage on the topic “The world I would like.” At the same time, a photographic exhibition was staged on violence and how to overcome it.
In the afternoon, at a press conference attended by the main local newspapers, members of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, who have just arrived in India, were presented. Immediately afterwards, a round table on ways of promoting peace in the world was held, and among the participants was the personal secretary of Mahatma Gandhi, V. Kalyanam, a man of 88 who still possesses incredible vitality. Several hundred people, along with 200 children, took part in the event, which was organised by the Humanist Movement of Chennai, and those present gave a warm welcome to the World March delegation.
