Abstention, repetition and Mélenchon: these three words alone sum up the result of the first round of the presidential election in France. Indeed, E. Macron outgoing President and candidate of ultra-liberalism obtained 27.84% of the votes, Mme. Le Pen of the RN (Rassemblement Nationale) candidate of the extreme right with 23.15% qualifies for the second round. Jean-Luc Mélenchon the candidate of the FI (France Insoumise) for the Union Populaire obtained 21.95% of the votes. Abstention reached a record for a presidential election: 26.3 % of voters did not vote, more than 1 in 4, mainly among young people aged 18 to 35. Moreover, according to a survey, 31% of 18- to 24-year-olds and 34% of 25- to 34-year-olds voted for the Union Populaire candidate, well ahead of Macron and Le Pen. The future will be built with them. Youth thirsty for life, justice and fraternity; this emerging commonality will materialise in one way or another.
The traditional left-right parties are collapsing and disappearing from the political landscape with only 1.74% for the Socialist Party candidate and 4.79% for the Republican candidate. They will not be reimbursed for their campaign costs as they have not reached 5%. The same goes for the candidate of Europe Ecology The Greens who obtained 4.58%. The extreme right is reinforced with 7.05% for Eric Zemmour and his party Reconquête (extreme right) created at the end of 2021. The voters of the traditional right were divided between the liberal Macron and the extreme right.
As for the Communist Party candidate, Fabien Roussel, bluffing throughout the campaign, making apologies for nuclear energy and knowing that he could not be elected, he obtained 2.31% of the vote. The Communist Party in 2012 had not stood and by internal vote its members had elected Jean-Luc Mélenchon as the Front de Gauche candidate. In 2017 still without a PC (Communist Party) candidacy but a halftone support to the candidacy of France Insoumise. Today in 2022, afterwards five years of ultra-liberalism where the candidate of France Insoumise for the Popular Union could make the difference, the Communist Party presents a candidate and sends the Popular Union candidacy to defeat.
This Sunday evening, 10 April, Fabien Roussel (Communist Party) called for a vote for Emmanuel Macron, the candidate of ultra-liberalism (outgoing president) to block the extreme right. But to block the extreme right and ultra-liberalism it would have been necessary not to stand and to make common cause with the Popular Union. First of all, it is the one who bears the responsibility. The distance between Marine Le Pen (extreme right) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon is very small. If it is not betraying the people, it is very close! The same remark for the socialist party that has not been on the left for a long time and the ecologists incapable of having a real social policy: they have all called to vote for Macron to block the extreme right.
They all have a responsibility in this second round which is just a repeat of 2017 and abstention. How to believe in all these politicians who are only interested in their ego, spend their time deceiving and lying. A tripartite France wakes up this morning: ultra-liberalism, the extreme right and the Popular Union.
Something common was born out of all this, the traditional parties were disallowed. People are looking for hope, building for the future and social justice. The voters of the Communist Party, the Ecological Party, the Socialist Party and others cast their votes for the candidacy of the Popular Union (Jean-Luc Mélenchon). Those who resist, those who suffer, all those who want a change in society have chosen to free themselves from the voting instructions of the party leaders, allowing them a higher result than in 2012 and 2017.
We are no longer fooled. The second round will take place on Sunday 24 April, nothing says that voters are still fooled by the fear of the far right, that is working less and less. All politicians have built this situation, they have played with fire and a staging that has been going on for more than thirty years. Maybe they will get burned? Whatever happens in the second round, the abstentionists will be neither responsible nor guilty. Neither Macron nor Le Pen, is what we hear in the streets.
