The Mekong River means life: stop the Don Sahong Dam

The Mekong is the lifeblood of Southeast Asia (photo: International Rivers)

Dear friends of the rainforests,

Millions of lives throughout Southeast Asia are intricately entwined with the Mekong River – a source of food security, identity and rich heritage.

Yet that may soon change forever: the government of Laos wants to build the Don Sahong Dam and export electricity to neighboring countries. If built, it would have an incalculable impact on the critically endangered Irrawaddy river dolphin and the internationally protected Ramsar wetlands downstream. The dam would also endanger fish migration and thus the food security of countless people in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Please call on the governments of Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam to scrap the Don Sahong Dam project and seek more sustainable energy options to protect the future of the Mekong River’s ecosystem and her people.

TAKE ACTION

Thanks for being involved,
