NYC August 15 – In front of Gandhi statue in Union Square, a vigil was held to ask for a nonviolent solution to end the conflict in Gaza and Israel, followed by a ceremony for people to send their best wishes of peace and hope to those affected by the conflict in the region, as well as here in NYC. Emiko Nagano, one of the organizer of the event says “I have been deeply affected by the news and images coming from Gaza and Israel conflict. On both sides, people are suffering. We must find a non-violent solution to end conflicts and to end violence. On August 15th is o-bon in the Japanese calendar, and it’s a day dedicated to honoring the loved ones who passed, as well as for us living to reflect on our lives and renew a commitment to live our lives to the fullest and in peace”.
