During his stay in Kazan, the Venezuelan president met with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, and said he feels “very proud of the friendship” with Moscow.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro gave a speech at the plenary sessions in the BRICS+/Outreach format on Thursday, where he stressed the need to “re-found the United Nations system”.

“Every time a high-precision missile falls on an apartment building in Gaza and kills men, women and children. Every time a missile falls on Beirut or southern Lebanon, those missiles set fire to and destroy the United Nations system,” he said.

And he questioned: “Where is the International Court of Justice? Or was it created only to persecute the countries of the South? Where is the United Nations justice system? Does it only serve to produce documents and communiqués? And are the lives of Palestinian children not worth it?

The Venezuelan president called for “raising our voices forcefully” and seeking “a practical and audacious plan” for a refoundation of the UN system that “is agonizing in the face of the emergence of Nazi and fascist currents throughout this painful historical juncture.”

“A new world is possible. We believe that a new world has already been born,” he pointed out.

“A new payment system”.

Maduro assured that “a new economic agenda with practical solutions” is necessary. “It is not only about making small reforms to the monetary system (…) it is necessary to advance in a new payment system (…) it is necessary to advance in a new payment system (…).

Likewise, he recalled that “Venezuela was removed from all the world payment systems as part of the aggressions, of economic punishments”. “It is necessary to have a basket of currencies that combine the strong currencies of the superpowers with the right of each of our countries to have their own currency”, he emphasized.

Maduro advocated for a “new inclusive economy of independent countries that aspire to social happiness and dignity”.

“A change of era”

The president recalled that the BRICS emerged in a “change of epoch.” “There is a change of historical epoch. A new epoch has emerged and new superpowers have emerged, new powers and countries that modestly like Venezuela, or regions like Latin America and the Caribbean, here is our sister Cuba, our sister Bolivia, our sister Nicaragua, (…) we aspire that our right to independence, to the future and to development be respected”, he specified.

“The BRICS have put new paradigms on the world agenda,” he said.

The President arrived in Russia on Tuesday to participate in the event. In his first statements, after being received with high honors, he said that it is the first time that a Venezuelan president attends a summit of BRICS heads of state. “It is historic,” he said.

During his bilateral meeting on Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Maduro praised “the great battle that Russia is fighting” today “against Nazism.” After the meeting, in a conversation with RT, the Venezuelan leader described the meeting as “successful” and “extraordinary” and expressed his satisfaction with the emergence of a bloc of emerging countries such as the BRICS, which in his opinion, “has become the epicenter of the new world”.
