Comprised of selected Grade 11 and 12 student-researchers coming from different strands, Baguio Central University Senior High School Department conducted their comprehensive research colloquium at BCU Magsaysay Auditorium on May 7, 2024.

With the initiative and joint efforts of the Practical Research (PR) teachers, Immersion coordinators, Supreme Student Government (SSG) advisers, through the guidance of SHS principal – Dr. Manion K. Alcantara, the said one-day event was deemed successful in connection with its major theme: “Diversity of Fields, Strands of Knowledge – Filling the Gaps of Societal Challenges.”

Best in Poster (Grade 12 Category): Cristel Juneight Malogan, Annabelle B. Lansangan, Charisse B. Quimson. Adviser: Ms. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel. Research Title: Roll a Sheet: Mastering the Balance Sheet Accounts Through a Board Game (ABM).

Grade 11 & 12 chosen presenters together with distinguished panelists Dr. Joseph B. Quinto, Instr. Ivan Inuguidan, Instr. Ayson D. Depayso, Dr. Genevieve B. Kupang, Dr. Gina L. Casi and SHS principal Dr. Manion Alcantara – all give their smiles of success after the whole-day research colloquium.

Having been filled with varied full- blown researches from Grade 12 students, the following have been presented and examined:
-Roll a Sheet: Mastering the Balance Sheet Accounts Through a Board Game (ABM)
-Antiseptic Property of Calendula Officinalis (Pot Marigold) Leaf Extract (STEM)
-Strategies of Student Leaders in Promoting Students’ Participation in School Activities (HUMSS)
-Preservation of Kankanaey Cultural Practices by BCU SHS (HUMSS)
-Skill Acquisition in Work Immersion of BCU Education Students (HUMSS)
-Pinus kesiya (Benguet Pine Tree) Needle: Its Potential as Natural Disinfectant (STEM)
-Antiseptic Property of Piper betel (Betel) Leaf Extract (STEM)
-Effects of Having Breakfast to the Productivity of the BCU SHS Students (TVL-HE)
-Technical Issues Faced by BCU SHS Students in Computer Laboratory (TVL-ICT)

Among the mentioned studies, top four has been chosen to present their research afterwards – starting from the background, theories, statement of the problem, discussion, conclusions, recommendations, until the output/product derived from the study.

Exploring Grade 11 SHS Students’ Research Proposals

Grade 11 Category. Best in Group Presentation: Zaeya Piduca, Darnell Keisha Guiaoan, Nathalie Alingbas, Albert Fangsilat. Adviser: Ma’am Beverly B. Pilay. Research Title: Lived Experiences of Working Students at Baguio Central University SHS.

The academic event did not only serve as a platform for the Grade 12 students to showcase their intellectual prowess in terms of research presenting, but also paved way for their younger fellow students (Grade 11) to come up with interesting research proposals. This gives major highlights to the following studies:
-Exploring the Importance of Social Media in Promoting Businesses in Baguio City (ABM)
-CHATGPT: Its Effect to the Critical Thinking of HUMSS 11 Students of Baguio Central University (HUMSS)
-Lived Experiences of Working Students at BCU SHS (HUMSS)
-Artificial Intelligence’s Influence on the Learning Experiences of Students at BCU SHS (HUMSS)
-Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools for Academic Purposes by Grade 11 Students of BCU (STEM)
-Exploring the Career Awareness of Grade 12 STEM Students at BCU (STEM)
-The Healing Legacy: Exploring the Fascinating encounters of Grandparents with Traditional Healers (STEM)

Best Research Proposal (Grade 11 Category): Jane Ann Galong, Xyke Elif Orejudos, Skyver Chred Benito, and Ismael Fagyan. Adviser: Ms. Edna Culbongan. Research Title: The Healing Legacy: Exploring the Fascinating Encounters of Grandparents with Traditional Healers.

The school is dedicated to provide quality education through committed training of students to be holistic and globally competitive graduates hence, the establishment of well-guided programs such as research colloquiums, exhibits, study presentations and more. With the expertise and guidance of Dr. Genevieve B. Kupang, Dean, BCU Graduate School, Dr. Joseph B. Quinto, Dr. Gina L. Casi, Dean, College of Nursing and Midwifery, Instr. Ayson D. Depayso and Instr. Ivan Inuguidan, who served as the distinguished members of the research council, the event has been proved to be a success.
