Social protests and demonstrations were held in several Australian cities with thousands of people clamoring for an end to the violence against women that has recently shaken the country.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, addressing the crowds, described the situation of gender-based violence as an “epidemic”, a major “national crisis”, a kind of national emergency.

Across Australia, thousands of people took to the streets to demand an end to gender-based violence. Let us remember that in the city of Sydney, at the beginning of April, a mass stabbing took place in which of the six victims who died, five were women.

These demonstrations are taking place in the midst of a real wave of violent crimes against women.
