A solution to the migration crisis. In an attempt to find a solution to the migration crisis in the Americas, as in the rest of the world, the countries of Venezuela and Mexico have signed a comprehensive migration agreement to ensure dignified treatment for Venezuelan migrants. This initiative could be replicated and improve the inhumane conditions suffered by millions of migrants around the world.
The signing took place during the VIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and was attended by President Nicolás Maduro, Bolivarian Foreign Minister Yván Gil and his Mexican counterpart Alicia Bárcena.
The bilateral agreement is part of the “Return to the Homeland” plan promoted by the Venezuelan government since 2018, which has seen more than 40,000 Venezuelan migrants return in recent years.
