The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder is in talks with the US Justice Department about a deal that would allow him to plead to a misdemeanor and possibly be freed from jail in the U.K.

The potential deal would see Assange plead guilty to mishandling classified information, with the five years he has already served in London’s Belmarsh Prison counting as his sentence, the unnamed sources told the newspaper.
