Bacolod, Western Visayas, Philippines — March 4, 2024. The 7th Philippine Misereor Partnership Incorporated (PMPI) General Assembly officially opened on March 4 bringing together environmental advocates, community leaders, and stakeholders nationwide.
With the theme “TWENTY: Transformative Work on Environment and Nature’s Rights Through the Years,” this assembly reflects on two decades of environmental advocacy against destructive mining, human rights work, and various impactful community development efforts.
PMPI’s regional clusters have set up captivating exhibits highlighting their remarkable projects and accomplishments over the years. From tree-planting, coastal resource management, and sustainable agricultural practices to community island development, anti-mining campaigns, urban ecological and social transformation, and ecosystem protection. These manifest their commitment to helping local communities, environmental conservation, and protecting nature’s rights.
In addition to project showcases, several regional clusters have brought local products to the assembly. These products celebrate their regions’ rich biodiversity and cultural heritage and the local products produced by communities. From handwoven textiles to organic food products, attendees can experience the vibrant tapestry of Philippine traditions and products that satisfy different tastes and come from sustainable practices.
The General Assembly will decide on common actions within the next four days; addressing the urgent issues confronting the Philippines today, among others, climate change, the West Philippine Sea, and the proposed charter change. There will be a public press conference on March 7, 2024, at 11 AM, at the Acacia Hotel, Bacolod City, discussing the accomplishments of the General Assembly.
The 7th PMPI General Assembly will last from March 4 to 7, with a solidarity night on March 6.
