January 22nd, 2024 A vigil outside the U.S. UN Mission across from the United Nations with members of Peace Action NY, Manhattan Project for a Nuclear Free World, Pax Christi NY, The Catholic Worker, Veterans For Peace, PSR, and ICAN gathered today in front of the United Nations to commemorate and celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the entry into force (becoming international law) of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

In contrast to and fully aware that in just 9 days, the universities, corporations, national labs, contractors, and government agencies of our entire nuclear weapon “Enterprise” will be gathering for 3 full days in D. C. for their “Annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit”, vying for and solidifying contracts so the nuclear arms race will continue full out. These are mostly the very same corps and agencies sending arms supporting our continual wars.

Activist spoke to the staff as they came in and out of the U.S. Mission, requesting they begin the process of ending the nuclear arms race we are leading. Acting UN Rep Robert Wood was one of many.

When gathered at the Isaiah Wall we spoke of now having One Presidential Candidate who has just signed the pledge that she will sign the TPNW if elected, and move the money toward our sustainability: Marianne Williamson. U.S. Representative Jim McGovern last week (Jan. 18th) gave his statement on the House floor calling for the urgency to support the TPNW. We’re asking all Reps to sign the two Resolutions in the House for the TPNW.

We remembered and gave profound thanks to our brave dedicated champions of nuclear abolition over the past 79 years to the present.
