This event had been launched a few days earlier by an international network that invited people to count down to New Year’s Eve by asking that the fire cease, by calling for a ceasefire in many squares. In Milan, they succeeded.
Many young people found themselves in Piazza Duomo and despite the confusion of a New Year’s Eve they managed to send an international message from here too.
The best thing was welcome in the square: many other people, Italian or otherwise, joined the initiative, applauded and supported the young people who were trying to make space for themselves and amplified the message.
