On November 18 and 19, [2023], an international meeting of Pressenza news agency editorial representatives from the different regions of our planet took place in Athens. It was a mixed meeting, attended by many representatives from Asia, Europe, North and South America.
During the meeting, time was initially used to discuss the thoughts and opinions of the agency’s media partners, which were presented in eleven three-minute videos. The focus was on the role of alternative and independent media, today’s challenges and the question of how networking can be strengthened. This was followed by an important exchange of views and experiences on the strengths and weaknesses of the Agency’s work and its role in the face of the global challenges facing humanity.
The following day, plans and actions for the next 10 years were discussed: how the agency can respond to increasing mundialization and globalization, how new technologies can be used, how outreach can be expanded, which organizations, institutions and individuals we would like to ally with, what content should be highlighted, and how to expand the human and financial resources we need to respond to the above.
Important points of exchange were also the best practices of the different editorial teams, as well as the workshops based on the book “Nonviolent Journalism” that had been organized, and their applications in the different corners of our planet.
It was the first hybrid meeting since the pandemic, and Athens provided an excellent setting that fully met the requirements of this two-day event. Pressenza would like to thank the Earth Organization for the use of its premises.
On the sidelines of the event, a delegation from the news agency took part in the march for the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic and visits were organized to Delphi and the archaeological site of Elefsina.
