Registration is now open for the International Conference “Financial Sovereignty: Debt, Plunder and Resistance”, which will take place in the city centre of São Paulo, Brazil, on 23, 24 and 25 October.
The main objective of the meeting is to promote a shared space between organisations, activists, academics and affected communities in Latin America and the Caribbean to produce critical knowledge about the forms and consequences of debt and financialisation, as well as to debate the construction of alternatives for sovereignty, good living and the defence of bodies and territories. It also aims to bring together allies, strategies and initiatives that confront the current production model, in addition to the demand for comprehensive reparation of the historical, social and ecological debt.
The international meeting also aims to debate the problem of financialisation-extractivism and its impacts on bodies, territories and nature; experiences in the face of extractive exploration, megaprojects and the privatisation of common and public goods.
Sovereignty is the central theme of the inaugural conference on 23 October. The following day, the programme continues with group reflections and debates to contextualise the different realities faced by countries in the region. Closing the programme, the focus of the third and final day is to define common agendas, strategies, alternatives and guidelines for collective action (see detailed programme at no end).
The International Conference “Financial Sovereignty: Debt, Plunder and Resistance” is jointly organised by Jubilee South/Americas (JS/A), the Committee for the Cancellation of Third World Debt (CADTM-AYNA) and the Council for Popular Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (CEAAL).
