Hiroshima not only cries out for remembrance, it is an August 6th that seeks a coherent and courageous response from the future, it is a milestone that not only needs to be resolved in human rights theory, not only in the deliberation of international justice, not even in the recognition and request for forgiveness from the society that spilled out the fateful bomb on a community of civilians.

That act of mass murder was only possible from a society and a historical moment with a human consciousness trapped in nihilism, in the denial of the human essence. That psycho-social context and the bombs dropped in 1945 unleashed a wave of social disintegration, of rule by a power filled with irrationality and insensitivity, several generations covered with a cloak of suffering and meaninglessness. A technological development appropriated by a deranged elite, which has emptied its origin of the search for a contribution to common happiness.

This 6th of August, we are called for a revolution that will leap over nothingness, and that will collectively find the way to the nearest future that will allow us to leave human pre-history behind us.

That warmly human future is what gives meaning to the memory, to the commemoration that brings us together today, and that tightens our bonds, which, paradoxically, open up the infinite options that our descendants will have to face.

May it be so.

Peace in the heart and light in the understanding.

Special thanks to the Butoh performers whose dance remind us of the persistence of life.
