Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has addressed the opening ceremony of the Lanting Forum on China and World Modernisation in Shanghai.
Qin said that China’s path to modernisation means the modernisation of a huge part of the world’s population, thus giving a strong impetus to global economic recovery. He said that this path has been set by China, but that the opportunities belong to the whole world.
Qin reiterated that the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and stressed that the Taiwan issue is the “core of the core”, stating that there is no room for speculation and that those who play with fire when it comes to Taiwan will end up getting burned. Qin also met with Dilma Rousseff, president of the BRICS Development Bank, as well as Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mamadou Tangara.
The annual event brings together representatives from government, business and global institutions in China.
