We see it every day: the current leaders (political, economic or socio-technocratic…) seem mentally and emotionally incapable of wanting to change “their” power system. Their motivations? The perpetuation and expansion of their security, of their domination. This is why even diplomacy is powerless.
War, due to the enormous acceleration and explosion of technological changes, especially artificial intelligence, is increasingly the key tool for the survival and domination of our leaders. It is, however, a “solution” that does not solve the problems, as evidenced by the nuclear temptation / or threat hanging in the heads of the belligerents in the ongoing global war in Ukraine. Imbued to the point of intoxication with the idea that peace can only be imposed by force, they are already prepared for a new war, which they believe should ensure the absence of war for a certain period of time in a new planetary phase of imperial domination.
The forces of opposition to the system remain or have become too dispersed and disunited after the brief and exciting phase of the World Social Forum. Only those forces active within the system that are culturally, socially and ethically powerful, but also bear alternative visions and projects, will now be able to trigger possible short-term changes such as the imposition of a truce in Ukraine.
In my opinion, it is necessary for today’s authoritative people – for example, the Nobel Prize winners (in all disciplines, but especially peace), the UN Secretary General, the Pope and his counterparts/heirs in religious and moral denominations, world-renowned thinkers of credibility and humanity – to get together and dissociate themselves from the system. Let them make an act of dissent against the Russians, the Americans and the Europeans of NATO, the main perpetrators of the ongoing destruction. They can decide together to meet, by invitation or under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the United Nations, without asking any permission. To meet, not to launch an umpteenth appeal, but to accomplish an act of commitment intended to promote a worldwide mobilization of peaceful civil disobedience. An affirmation of the liberation of the inhabitants of the Earth from global warfare and from the dominators, destroyers of the planet’s life.
A clear commitment on their part to promote new global institutional rules and socio-economic horizons would be to adopt a planetary Declaration of the Rights of the Earth to Peace and Justice, addressed to the world and the great nebula of civil society associations and movements.
The main lines of the declaration of commitment should/could be the following:
We, human beings, declare that
1 – War is illegal and its continuation in Ukraine and elsewhere is a criminal act. We pledge to end it, to act for an immediate cease-fire,
2 – The production and use of all types of weapons, including nuclear and bacteriological weapons, is illegal. States that do not ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations, or that obstruct its application, place themselves outside international law,
3 – Armed peace is nonsense, the international community must abandon the principle of war “si vis pacem para bellum” (if you want peace, prepare for war).
4 – States must stop military spending, which we consider today as “illegitimate” and therefore a theft of the peoples’ resources.
5 – A gigantic positive work must be carried out by the Inhabitants of the Earth for the demilitarization of human and social relations, and for the reconversion of the monstrous world military-technological, economic, industrial and cultural machine,
6 – The objective is to start transforming our global economies of war as soon as tomorrow morning, economies that produce tools and means of theft and that squander natural and human resources for the benefit of a few, into “local” economies of prosperity in interdependence, cooperation and solidarity, thanks to the new technologies put at the service of all. The real “transition” that counts is not the “ecological” transition (i.e. the “green” capitalist market economy for nature), nor the digital transition (construction of a global authoritarian regime under the protection of GAFAM (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft)). But [it is] the transformation of a society of war and exclusion into a society of peace, sharing and common well-being.
7 – We commit ourselves to no longer let the illegitimate dominants destroy our lives, our territories, our past in the sole name of their power and their money (camouflaged behind the hypocritical mystification of “national” security and independence).
All this may seem pure fantasy, and it is true that it will be difficult for the above-mentioned forces to come together with such “rebellious” proposals and objectives. But, in the face of the current and predicted catastrophes, unique in the history of humanity for their scope, size and dramatic character, realistic solutions are proving ineffective. It is the reign of the absurd.
The producers of this absurdity cannot be allowed to “govern” the future of all of us, the living beings of the Earth. We call upon civil society to resolutely engage in these ways.
