Please join the North Country Peace Group for an online Reading & Discussion of Dr. King’s “Beyond Vietnam – A Time to Break Silence” speech on Thursday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. MLK delivered this controversial but little known antiwar speech from the pulpit of Riverside Church in NYC on April 4, 1967. A scathing denunciation of America’s involvement in Vietnam, the speech connects war, race and poverty and urges citizens to “bring a halt to this tragic war.”
Dr. King’s message ignited an uproar and one year to the date of the speech he was assassinated. This is the speech we needed to hear in 1967 – and the one we need to hear today.
