Collectives from all parts of Spain met in Madrid on 15 October in defence of public pensions and their revaluation, for the elimination of the gender gap in pensions; in favour of a rise in salaries based on the real CPI and against the privatisation of Social Security, as well as the auditing of its accounts.
Here you can also see the interview that Ramón Franquesa, spokesperson for COESPE, gave to Pressenza at the end of the closing event.
Called by the State Coordinator for the Defence of the Public Pension System (COESPE), among other organisations, and supported by various groups, the demonstration went through the city centre and ended in the Plaza de Callao, where the words of the spokesman of COESPE, Ramón Franquesa, summed up the demands of this call:
In defence of public pensions and the denunciation of their privatisation.
Elimination of the gender gap in public pensions.
Increases in salaries and public pensions based on the real CPI.
For the defence of public services in general.
The auditing of the Social Security accounts to know what amounts come in and what they are used for.
People from different backgrounds, flags and banners of all colours, different acronyms and, in addition to pensioners’ associations, groups – with other priority objectives but always supporting the public sector – have participated in this citizens’ mobilisation, accompanying the call promoted by the organisations that defend public pensions.
