This is how the artisanal fishermen of CONDEPP (Consejo Nacional por la Defensa del Patrimonio Pesquero A.G.) reacted after what the President of the Republic said in his public account on Wednesday, indicating that “in terms of fishing and aquaculture we will fulfill our commitment to advance a new law, which is born free of questions and the result of an open and transparent debate, which provides clear, fair and sustainable rules, both at industrial and artisanal level”.
Hernán Cortés, president of CONDEPP said, “never before has a President been so explicit in pointing out that our sector needs a transparent and corruption-free process to replace the current Fisheries Law that grants 70% of fishing to the industrial sector in perpetuity and only 30% to the more than one hundred thousand artisanal fishermen and their families”.
In conclusion, the national leader endorsed the satisfaction of the sector after Wednesday’s speech. The artisanal fishermen will continue to be attentive to the fulfillment of the word given by the highest authority.
