We interviewed Antonio Rebolledo, a Chilean engineer, as his new role as coordinator of the Humanist Psychology Network caught our attention before the next Latin American Humanist Forum that will take place in the Library of Santiago on May 10, 11 and 12. We wanted him to tell us about the objectives of this Network, which has numerous members.

Antonio Rebolledo: The main objective of the Humanist Psychology Network is to put in contact people (not only psychologists) and organisations interested in contributing with studies and tools for the balance and development of human consciousness.

Pressenza: In what sense can the face-to-face meeting in Santiago set in motion a type of work sustained over time, beyond the event itself?

AR: On Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m., we will meet face-to-face for the first time with friends from Chile, Argentina, Peru and Brazil. In this meeting we will formally constitute the Latin American Network of Humanist Psychology. Together we will define its objectives, ways of working and exchange. With this collaborative methodology of work, we hope that each member will be motivated to give the best of themselves and that together we can help each other to develop the Network in each of our countries.

Pressenza: What do you think the long-term objectives of this meeting could be?

AR: I think it would be very useful if this Network could influence governments, institutions and people in Latin America to set up Humanist Psychology Centres that give tools to the population, to strengthen themselves as human beings and to improve the social environment in which they live.

In this sense, the Humanist Psychology Network proposes the simultaneous development of the individual and society, as the only way to achieve balance and development of the mind.

Pressenza: What would you say to those who are thinking of participating in this Latin American Humanist Forum to be held in Santiago?

AR: That a more human world will not be built by the selfish psychopaths who direct big companies and countries as if they were such. A more humane world will be built by people who are supportive, empathetic, joyful and optimistic. Joining any of the Forum Networks is a way to start building it.
