March 25 is the EU’s 60th birthday, and the leaders of all EU countries will be in Rome on that day to celebrate. What exactly will they be celebrating? Its disintegration, under Brexit and the rise of the Nationalist International, which they now call a ‘variable geometry’ Europe? Undoubtedly they will come, see the sights, utter useless words and leave.
While the establishment is in Rome munching canapés and sipping champagne as Europe crumbles, DiEM25 will also be in Rome. We will gather Europe’s brightest progressive minds under one roof to propose real, concrete policies for saving Europe and, more importantly, for making it worth saving. In Rome, while the establishment fiddles, we shall be hard at work and will launch DiEM25´s European New Deal – a set of ambitious economic, social and ecological proposals for Europe as a whole (Eurozone, EU but not Eurozone and non-EU countries) that will be debated, amended and voted for by our entire membership.
We have a 1,000-seat theatre booked. And we have a range of remarkable speakers, like award-winning film director Ken Loach, co-founder of Podemos Juan Carlos Monedero, the Greens’ Ska Keller, the most progressive of Italy’s politicians, new political movements like Razem from Poland, as well as a host of artists and active citizens.
Join us! Register here, or if you can’t make it to Rome, save this link so you can follow the event online via livestream.
And as ever, your kind contribution can help make DiEM25’s presentation of the European New Deal a success! Check out some of the event’s budget figures and make a donation here.
