“In the 1930s, Britain offered refuge to 10,000 Jewish Kindertransport children, fleeing genocide and persecution in Europe, when most other countries refused” Jeremy Corbyn declared today. “We must continue this humanitarian legacy and not turn our back on refugee children in Europe today.
I urge Theresa May and her Government to provide sanctuary to unaccompanied minors in Calais before it’s too late. I also urge my colleagues in Parliament to support the Dubs II Amendment to the Children and Social Work Bill.“
This Amendment, put forward by Labour Peer, Alf Dubs, and agreed by Parliament in March 2016, requires the government to arrange for the transfer to the UK and support of unaccompanied refugee children from Europe. As yet the government has yet to transfer a single child under this provision and has not set out how children can access this protection.
