Dear friends, The families of the 112 garment workers killed in the horrific Tazreen Fashions factory fire in Bangladesh are still waiting for Walmart to pay the compensation owed to them. The majority of product in Tazreen at the time of the fire was Walmart’s and Walmart had audited the factory multiple times. But rather than fixing the fire hazards, Walmart turned a blind eye on the dangerous conditions. After 112 people died and 150 were injured while trapped inside the burning building, Walmart blatantly refused to compensate the injured workers and families of the deceased. Last year Walmart committed $3 million to assist victims of factory tragedies in Bangladesh. One million went to the Rana Plaza victims’ fund and a smaller amount went to medical expenses for injured workers. But what happened to rest of the money? Walmart should disclose what it did with the $3 million and ensure full compensation for Tazreen victims now! As Walmart workers in the U.S. fast for $15 an hour and full-time jobs, now is a critical time to build the pressure on Walmart together.Make sure to sign up today to support Walmart workers on Black Friday (November 27th). Even if there isn’t a Walmart store near you, you can support the movement by fasting for one or more days leading up to Black Friday and by showing your support for #FastFor15 publicly online. The rest of this month is a critical time for action to demand fairness and justice from Walmart. Please join the actions:
