Ada Colau, Mayor of Barcelona, received the marchers at the city council and give her support to the EuroMarches.

Coming from Zaragoza, EuroMarches arrived at Tortosa at lunchtime on the 5th of October. Representatives from the social movements in Bajo Ebro received the marchers and offered them lunch. The central issue in Tortosa is centred on the defence of rivers and the fulfilment of the Water Mark Directive. EuroMarches promised to take to Brussels the demands of the Ebro Defence Platform and their condemnation of the Spanish government and the European Commission for approving a Hydrological plan of Cuenca del Ebro that doesn’t guarantee the sustainability of the delta and which fails to comply with the aforementioned directive.

From Tortosa, EuroMarches headed for Barcelona where a gathering of people was waiting for them in University Square. From there a rally proceeded through the city centre and arrived at the city council in San Jaume Square where the local government gave the activists an official reception, with the Deputy Mayor mingling with the Marchers.

On the 6th of October, EuroMarches stayed in Barcelona to carry out a series of activities. At the start of the day, Ada Colau, Mayor of the city, received a EuroMarches delegation in her office and showed her support for the initiative by accepting a t-shirt.

In the meantime, the Marchers, accompanied by activists from Catalan movements, held a parade along Paseo de Gracia. With a strictly nonviolent attitude and without causing any material damage to the different banks visited, around two hundred people stopped in front of the different branches for several minutes to chant slogans denouncing the elites of the financial system, cuts to public services and the policies of privatization. The two most chanted slogans were “Another Europe is possible” and “No, no, no… we don’t want to pay your debt with our health and education.” There were no incidents reported to the police who were observing the action at close quarters at all times.

In the afternoon, EuroMarches organised a popular debate in Cotxeres de Sants with the participation of Miren Etxezarreta and Sergi Cutillas.

On the 7th of October, a particularly significant day is planned as the March moves on to Andorra where a strongly symbolic rally against tax havens will take place.
