“John Pilger spoke at a recent symposium on Building an alliance against Secrecy Surveillance and Censorship in which he excoriates the media for its failure to hold power to account for the lies which imposed sanctions on Iraq in the 1990s and took us to war on the country in 2003.
John Pilger – War by media and the triumph of propaganda. At The Logan Symposium Dec 5th 2014 (25 minute video).
“Pilger draws parallels between the demonisation of Putin’s Russia and the madness which led to WWI when Europe was plunged into chaos at the beginning of the 20th century.
The risk of conflict is growing as the US/NATO/EU alliance conspires to return Russia to a vassal state…”
Although Pilger makes his case about the power of the Media in his usual well researched way, he appears to bestow such power on the Media itself, rather than stressing that most corporate or mainstream Media are mere mouthpieces of the powerful financial groups that own them and set their agenda. Big media v social media in the global, nonviolent and humanist revolution
However we understand he is appealing to journalists to “do their job”, that is, to investigate, reveal, denounce, hold to account. And report on positive changes and initiatives, we could add, rather than simply printing what sells papers, the disasters, the celebs’ heartaches and the horrible future awaiting us.
