These Indian Labourers In Dubai Missed Their Families. What Coca Cola Did For Them Is [also] Super Sweet

“Every day thousands of Indians and other South Asian labourers arrive in Dubai in the hope of finding work to provide a better future for their families. In a cruel twist of fate, it becomes difficult for them to talk to the very people for whom they came to provide for as call rates are very high in Dubai.

“So Coca Cola went and did something extremely sweet for them. To give these guys a few extra minutes of happiness, Coca-Cola created the Hello Happiness Phone Booth; a special phone booth that accepts Coca-Cola bottle caps instead of coins for a free 3-minute international phone call, helping them connect with their families back home more often,” from the company blurb.

Coca-Cola does not get much good press but remains popular and that’s because of its distinctive taste and of course because of the barrage of advertising the multinational can afford and that impinges on us all left, right and centre. As an occasional drink, no problem, but beyond such moderation the sugars are bad for health, however even multinationals can play the good guys in small ways like this. Well done Coca-Cola.
