The Humanist Movement in the village has set apart a huge poster board for all political parties and civil and social organisations, reports Byju Chalad, who directed the attention of Pressenza to this project.
Now the various organisations can unleash their creativity with posters espousing their particular cause of the respective ideologies. Apart from political parties, churches, temples, mosques, civil and social service organisations can also put up their posters. The residents have ensured that nobody damages the poster board. The board has been in-service since April 1999.
The promoters of the board placed some conditions on poster users. At any time, only one poster of any party or organisation can be displayed and the poster will be removed after a certain point of time. Also, nobody is allowed to paste posters over other’s posters.
Advertising of any product or companies is strictly prohibited. *“Each organisation has a specific area and the promoters will not allow other organisations to paste their posters there,”* says Mr R. P. Sushanth, Humanist Movement member.
*“This is a unique movement in Kerala. W treat all organisations in an impartial manner and we respect their activities, whether they are big or small. In the past most clashes were a sequel to postering or graffiti but now the poster board has changed all that.”*
Everyone is pleased that the frequency of clashed has dropped.
*“Initially, we were not sure whether the political parties would co-operate with us but really, we got a good response even from the very beginning. People from quite far away come to post their cause. If anyone does anything against the poster board the people react. Now our plan is to erect poster boards all over the district,”* Sushanth ended.
