**Dear Mr. Damm.**
Please accept our gratitude for the service you have rendered to our country in your diplomatic career.
We are writing to you because, as we know, the current Syrian regime’s actions have infringed, in the extreme, the most essential conditions of legitimacy. Under these conditions, there is no basis for continuing diplomatic relations with that regime.
History has already shown us these kinds of horrors before. When in the aftermath humanity could clearly see what had taken place, we witnessed too late the regret of those nations that maintained a diplomatic presence in the midst of the unthinkable.
The day is not far off when a newly legitimate Syrian government will be the repository of full diplomatic friendship between our peoples.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the dignity of Syria and Chile, we urge you to intervene immediately to remove our diplomatic mission to Syria.
We know that your moral discernment, and good professional opinion, will be the key to taking this important step.
