Silo, philosopher and founder of “Universalist Humanism” or “New Humanism”, passed away at 72 years of age on September the 16th in Mendoza (Argentina), where he lived with his family.
On the occasion of his departure, farewell ceremonies and gatherings have been carried out in countries as far away as Argentina, Chile, Philippines, India, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Germany, United States, Spain, Italy, etc.
Different organizations have been inspired by his doctrine, amongst them Convergence of Cultures, dedicated to promote and facilitate dialogue between cultures and to fight against all forms of violence and discrimination.
Still moved by his early but forewarned departure, Gaspare Tarará speaks to us: “In the name of the global team of Convergence of Cultures, I want to express a deep gratitude to Silo for his great legacy, which is not only a current of thought, but also a feeling and a way of living. By following his doctrine, the humanists of Convergence of Cultures know –continues our interlocutor- that only from the best of each culture and each individual, will it be possible to eliminate all forms of violence and to build one nation, the Universal Human Nation”.
Silo’s thought, expressed in works such as Humanize the Earth, Contributions to Thought, Psychology Notes and Universal Root Myths, among others, puts the human being as the central value and proposes active non-violence as a methodology of action for humanizing the Earth, thus contributing to increase liberty and happiness for all human beings.
