The meeting, attended by teams with members of different participating countries, began with a presentation of activities over the past years. Among those highlighted was the development of activities under the banner of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence.
“In general terms, the Convergence of Cultures proposes to facilitate and stimulate dialogue among cultures, fight against discrimination and violence, and bring its proposals to all latitudes,” declared Luis Milani, member of the international team of the Convergence of Cultures.
Another international representative who spoke, Claudio Miconi, developed the theme of what is the historical as well as current understanding of what culture and civilizations has been in different historical moments and from distinct points of view. Miconi explained “For us, the cultures are, above all else, the expression of human intentionality, the configuration for which the future is primary.
Edgardo Pérez, also among the international representatives, developed the new form of organizing of the organism, beginning with its immediate implementation; highlighting the function as a world federation of Convergence of Culturs, and explaining the fundamental structure based on base teams, a network of teams who work in the grass roots social base.
On a final note, Eduardo Gozalo and Mercè Duch expressed the aspirations guiding the action of this organism for the future, announcing the International Forum of the Convergence of Cultures in Istanbul this upcoming December.
The Convergence of Cultures is an organism that was born from the Humanist Movement and works in the field of interculturality, opening bridges of communication among cultures through the activities that make it possible for joint action among people of different sensibilities. Miconi continues, “In this sense speaking of dialogue and convergence, the most profound aspects of a culture, starting from ones own, could be difficult to perceive but could be developed from dialogue among cultures…this is possible when, as a condition of the dialogue, the human being is placed as the central value.”
The Humanist Party, the Community for Human Development, World Without Wars and Violence, the World Center for Humanist Studies are also organisms born from the Humanist Movement.
