Filled with tourists and with its hotels booked, Berlin is commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Wall. In attendance are the first twenty-seven prime ministers of the EU, the leaders of the four allied powers that guarded the former divided city, with Hillary Clinton representing Obama, in addition to Nicolas Sarkozy, Gordon Brown and Dimitri Medvedev, as well as guests of honor, Mikhail Gorbachev and Lech Walesa.
The popular former leader of Poland will be one of the persons to activate the tipping of a one thousand piece, two-and-one-half meter high domino structure that will fall for one-and-one-half kilometers along the old route of the Wall, near the Brandenburg gate. The dominoes have been illustrated by 15,000 volunteers, most of them students. Concerts, speeches and a party will finish out the activities.
One of the events of greatest interest is the holding of the 10th Summit of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, which will take place November 10 and 11 at Berlin’s City Hall.
