The World March for Peace and Nonviolence was welcomed to Rabat by Ahmed Siba, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and by Aziz Dermolimi, the Secretary General for Youth. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Popular Movement Party. Founded in 1958, the party holds 90 out of a total of 320 seats in the parliament, and includes many former members of the resistance who chose peace as the only method for conflict resolution.
Siba stressed the importance of diplomacy, of his work with various non-governmental organizations, of the links established with other countries, and of the diversity of his own beautiful country, Morocco. He explained that his particular interests lie with defending the rights of rural peoples, the Berbers, and women.
Dermolini expressed his thanks on behalf of his foundation, started in 2008, to the World March Base Team for the message of peace they are spreading on their journey. He proclaimed his support for a world free of wars and nuclear weapons, a world in which everyone champions the causes of peace and nonviolence, a world for all humanity.
