Radio Nederland – The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, START, signed during the Cold War, expires this December. In recent weeks preliminary conversations have been presented among the negotiating parties.
In the Moscow meeting, both parties aim to solidify agreements with the objective of bilateral reduction of nuclear arsenals.
Simultaneously, the UN Disarmament Conference is taking place in Geneva. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who expressed his satisfaction at the number of initiatives towards global disarmament, expects negotiations in Moscow will yield encouraging results.
